Tiny Tots

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The reason that Jacqui Smith looks out of place in the Home Office, David Milliband in the Foreign Office and Alistair Darling in the Treasury is that none of them – or anyone else in the Cabinet – has any stature. The Great Offices of State are occupied by people who simply do not inspire confidence.

Gordon Brown is out of his depth. So was John Major. Bring back Tony Blair – or, better still, Margaret Thatcher.

Enough

Friday, February 29th, 2008

There is a time to say “I have given you enough opportunities” and that time is now. I am not the executioner: she has destroyed herself.

Rebels

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I gave a talk to three hundred and fifty medical students. I gather it was well received. I suppose they appreciated my rebellious nature. They’ll grow out of it in due course.

Unpopularity

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I make no secret of my admiration for President Bush and Tony Blair. I suppose I know from my work in the Recovery Centre what it feels like to do what you believe is right even though the people you most want to help or protect are among your most strident critics. That’s tough – but, too bad, that’s the way it goes in politics and in treatment centres.

Heigh Ho

Friday, February 29th, 2008

She phoned her husband to ask him to bring a bottle of wine with him when he comes to visit her in the Recovery Centre on Sunday. He was drunk at the time that he told us that. It is difficult to predict what will happen on Sunday but my guess is that he will bring the bottle and that he will have forgotten that he told us.

The Servant 1

Friday, February 29th, 2008

If he hobnobs with his father’s servants they won’t respect him. Nor will his father. He will get the worst of both worlds.

Speaker Martin

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The parliamentarians miss the point. This isn’t a witch hunt by the press, usurping members’ rights to appoint their own overseer. It’s a blatant case of someone in authority abusing his position of trust. If the Mother of Parliaments doesn’t hold true to that principle, we might just as well follow all the other examples of the European Commission and M.E.Ps.

The Mistress

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

At supper I sat next to his mistress. I could see what he had gone for. So could everyone else.

Very Bad

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The Consultant Psychiatrist charges £350 for a consultation and £300 for a telephone call (even for five minutes). He must be either very good or very bad. I know my guess.

Got Me

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I fear so. I’ve done a huge amount of work but he doesn’t want to change his behaviour.
