Shadowlands

Monday, December 31st, 2007

I didn’t see this play about CS Lewis first time round and I haven’t seen the film. Seeing the stage play was a delayed treat and it was absolutely magnificent. William Nicholson is superb. Talking to our friend John Standing in his dressing room afterwards, he was saying that the cast enjoy the production every night. That’s quite something.

A Mis-Spent Adulthood

Someone started to sing a chart number from the nineties and everyone joined in – except me. I didn’t know it.

Dynasty 1

None of my children have followed me into medical practice. I am neither sad nor happy about that. They have their own lives.

I’ll Never Know

Was it a trap? Was he offering to pay in advance for treatment he didn’t really need so that he could prove to himself that my only motivation is financial? I told him he didn’t need it – and he didn’t come.

Crimes

Dr Mohammed Taramisi, the infertility specialist, appears to have committed two major crimes: his clinic is not appropriately registered with the authorities (never mind the help that he has given to patients) and he is rich (never mind that he has earned his wealth). For all I know, he may have done other things that are reprehensible but these are the two crimes that will probably bring him down. Doctors have to do as they are told by the State and they certainly must not be rich.

Fancy That

Having left treatment temporarily to attend a court case, he came back afterwards, much to my surprise.

Incest

Friday, December 28th, 2007

At the age of five one brother put a snooker cue into her vagina to see how far it would go. At eight her mother smacked her head into the floor when she accidentally came across her mother and another brother having manual sex. Also at night she and a brother were raped by an uncle and then later she was raped by two brothers.

By the time I met her in adult life she was suicidal. She had told the stories to therapists many times before. EMDR is healing her pain so that she can move on. I feel truly privileged to be trusted to help her.

The Unreliable Employer

Friday, December 28th, 2007

There is a glut of registered mental nurses on the market. We already have a full complement and don’t need any more. Having recruited them three years ago, the NHS is now dumping them.
